our chosen charity
Wooden Spoon is a dynamic and impactful charity dedicated to transforming the lives of children and young people through the power of the rugby community.
They provide grants to local charities and organisations who work to give the best life opportunities to children and young people living with disabilities, those disadvantaged and those disengaged from society.
Wooden Spoon have a national footprint, but the largest part of our income is raised by local volunteers. key tag rugby rules and information
Squads and Teams:
· 7 a side – squads of up to 10 players.
· Substitutions are made at half time.
· Each team has a ‘Team Captain’, responsible for attending the briefing and liaising with festival organisers.
Competition Format:
· Each game is 10 minutes long, with a 2 minute half time in the middle.
· Pool stages (4 teams in each pool) followed by a knock out competition – every team progresses!
· The top two teams in each pool progress to the knock out stages of the Cup Competition, the bottom two progress to knock out stages of Vase Competition.
Tag Rugby Basic Rules:
· Each player wears a tag belt with two tags on each hip.
· When tagged, the player must stop as soon as possible and place the ball between their legs.
· The ‘tagger’ retreats by 1m whilst the ball is played by the opposing team, then hands the tag back to the player. They cannot re-join the game until this has happened. The attacking player who picks up the ball cannot score from a 'tag' - they must pass first.
· Tag Rugby is non-contact - only the removal of a tag is allowed as contact.
· No kicking – beginning a game and restarting play is by a free pass.
· Each team has ‘6 tags’ in attack - at the 7th tag, a turnover will be awarded to the defending team.
· Infringements by the attacking team lead to a turnover
· Infringements by the defending team lead to a reset of the opposing teams tackle count
